Zihautanejo

I'm glad we had some time in Zihautanejo, hereafter referred to as Zihua. This is a great coastal Mexican town to visit. This was our first but will not be our last trip here!

Our transition travel from Puerto Escondido to Zihua was thankfully uneventful. We flew Aeromar from Puerto Escondido to Mexico City, spent a four-hour layover in the Aeromar Lounge as part of our $250 CDN ticket price, and boarded another Aeromar flight to Zihua. Although we didn't take advantage of the free alcohol we did manage to eat, drink, and play games throughout the interval.

There isn't much to see out the plane window other than rugged mountains covered with scrub vegetation and we arrived just as the sun was setting. $670 pesos bought us a taxi ride to our condo on Playa de Madera. The view from the condo deck was stunning.

Zihua is only seven degrees of latitude further north than Puerto Escondido and sports similar daytime highs of 30 degrees and nighttime lows of 20 but the moderating influence of the onshore ocean breezes makes it a little more comfortable.

We have sister Rita's friend Linda to thank for our stay. Linda lives in Comox but is a long-time owner here in our 1990's era condo complex. She was able to secure a place for us and has proved to be a wonder at making sure we see a variety of sights and take advantage of the best restaurants (which there are many) in town.

Our routine has not varied much here in Zihua. We are up around seven, coffee, and out the door for a walk between 7:30 and 8. We have access to a long beach walk on La Ropa next door and have ventured a few kilometers on the dedicated walk, run, bike dedicated trail that goes all the way northwest to the tourist capital of resorts and hotels in Ixtapa, just 12 kilometers away.
